Where-to-eat-and-drink-in-halifax

Halifax is a multicultural city with people from all walks of life which means the food in the city is a reflection of the people and culture. With the growing population means a diverse range of food from Italian to Chinese to Turkish, you name it. I compiled a budget-friendly Halifax Restaurant Guide from my visits to places I’ve enjoyed dining at. I have put together a list where you can have breakfast, lunch, dinner and even dessert.

Where To Eat Breakfast

Waffle Love

Address –  2082 Gottingen St, Halifax, NS B3K 3B3

Budget: less than $15

Waffle love is a breakfast restaurant specifically for waffles with anything on it. At Waffle love, presentation is everything so I ordered the fruit lover waffles which cost about $13 alongside freshly squeezed lemonade costing $3. I particularly enjoyed the yummy waffles from here alongside the berries, banana, nutella and whip cream. The space Waffle love location is really small which means long wait times. I arrived shortly before 10 am on a weekend, the place was packed. My friends and I had to wait for almost 30 minutes before getting a spot to sit. Once, we were able to get a spot, everything else was good – the service and the food.

Smithy’s Family Restaurant

Address – 1490 Cathedral Ln, Halifax, NS B3H 4L4

Budget : less than $20

Smithy’s family restaurant is an English breakfast restaurant I enjoyed eating at. I can’t remember what exactly I ordered but it was from the skillet menu section. From the food selection I opted for, the hash browns were the highlight of my meal, definitely one of the best hash browns I have eaten. This restaurant has multiple locations across Halifax, however, I visited the one on Spring Garden road. As the name implies, the environment felt very family-like and spacious. I went here in the middle of the week and the place was not packed. There was more than enough space to choose where to sit. The customer service was good.

Lunch & Dinner

Lemon Tree

Address – 1532 Queen St, Halifax, NS B3J 2H8

Lemon tree is a Turkish restaurant that has other branches springing up in Halifax. I ordered the chicken kebab combo that costs $17. I think the food was worth my money in terms of quantity and quality. I particularly enjoyed the food here and loved the aesthetics of the restaurant. The restaurant has the Cappadocia touch with items floating around the room. It’s a small room in the Queen’s street branch and just felt I did not have enough privacy as the dining room and the kitchen were really close to each other.

Moxie’s Grill

Address – 182 Chain Lake Dr, Halifax, NS B3S 1C5

Budget: $25 and up

Moxie’s grill is a popular Canadian food chain restaurant known for its bar & grill menu. The food here has never disappointed me. My latest food choice, I ordered the beef vindaloo that had marinated salmon & jasmine rice which costs about $20. I love that I can choose from a selection whether fine dining or the bar setting to eat. The customer service here is always splendid except during peak times of course. I wish they could open a branch downtown Halifax as I would definitely go there more often.

Studio East Food + Drink

Address –  6021 Cunard St, Halifax, NS B3K 1E5

Budget: $25 and up /person

If you want to enjoy a hangout with your faves, Studio East Food + Drink is the place to be. Definitely a good place to meet people on a Friday night. I was vibing in the restaurant when I heard some Nigerian artistes sing through the speakers. To read more about my experience at Studio East, check out this post on what to do on a weekend in Halifax.

Arisu Table BBQ & Japanese Sushi

Address – 1645 Granville St

Budget: less than $20

I am not the biggest fan of Japanese food but I decided to try my luck with Arisu Table. I did not like the food I ordered but my friends who ate from this restaurant actually enjoyed their food. One thing that will make me come back here is the Karaoke. I really enjoyed myself screaming at the top of my lungs to my favourite songs.

For most of the lunch & dinner restaurants, they operate with either skip the dishes or doordash food delivery service.

Where To Drink

Hfx bar

Address: 1721 Brunswick St, Halifax, NS B3J 3Y3

This is one place I have failed to go to more often than I would expect. The ambience of this place is amazing. I find that this place is packed on specific days when they have wings night discounts or a big game (hockey, American football) to watch. This bar is friendly for all types of budgets.

Father’s moustache

Address: 5686 Spring Garden Rd, Halifax, NS B3J 1H5

No matter what day of the week and month of the year you go to Father’s Moustache is a favourite spot for Haligonians. Despite being always busy, they always have space to accommodate their customers. This is a place you want to come to with a gang of friends but be sure to make a reservation. This is another super affordable spot for any type of budget.

Ice Cream & Dessert

Cows

Address 1549 Lower Water St, Halifax, NS B3J 1S9

This is Atlantic Canada’s favourite ice cream spot with 2 locations at the Halifax waterfront. The icecream is very milky (Cows – you get?!) hence the rave about it.

Marble Slab

Address -278 Lacewood Dr, Halifax, NS B3M 3M9

This is my fave spot when it comes to creamery, I am not ashamed to be holding an ice cream cone even in the winter. During my latest visit, I ordered the vanilla flavour with strawberry & some other things I cannot remember. I prefer Marble Slab to Cows because they have more options in terms of flavour and add ons.

What other restaurants have you been to, that you think I should try?
