Nova Scotia has so much to see that limiting your time to Halifax will not give you the real feel of the province. There’s something special about hitting the road in Nova Scotia to explore a variety of places. The ocean views, charming small towns, and winding roads that lead to hidden gems make for the perfect adventure. Head to Nova Scotia Tourism for more inspiration. Whether you’re a local looking for a weekend escape or a visitor eager to explore, these five road trips should be on your bucket list this year. Pack some snacks, cue up your road trip playlist, and let’s go!
1. Kejimkujik National Park & National Historic Site
If you love nature, history, and a bit of adventure, a trip to Kejimkujik (or Keji, as locals call it) is a must. It is a place you will fall in love and it is perfect for hiking, kayaking, and stargazing. There’s a little something for everyone, whether you prefer a peaceful paddle through still waters or a scenic drive through the surrounding wilderness.
Best time to go: Spring, Summer & Fall

2. Lunnenberg– A Colorful Coastal Escape
Lunenburg is one of those places that feels straight out of a postcard. The brightly painted buildings, stunning waterfront, and rich fishing history make it a top road trip destination. While you’re there, take a stroll along the waterfront, visit the Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, and—if you’re lucky—spot the Bluenose II sailing into the harbor. Don’t leave without grabbing a bite at one of the cozy seafood restaurants. Lunenburg’s charm is hard to resist!

3. The Cabot Trail – The Ultimate Scenic Drive
No list of Nova Scotia road trips is complete without mentioning the legendary Cabot Trail. This breathtaking drive loops around Cape Breton Island, offering jaw-dropping coastal views, lush highlands, and plenty of hiking trails. If you love photography, you’ll be stopping every few minutes to capture the stunning landscapes. Want to take it up a notch? Plan your trip in the fall when the leaves turn vibrant shades of red and gold—it’s pure magic.
Best time to go: All year round
4. Victoria Park, Truro – Waterfalls & Woodland Wonders
Tucked away in Truro, Victoria Park is a hidden gem that deserves a spot on your road trip itinerary. The park features stunning waterfalls, lush forests, and walking trails that are perfect for a peaceful escape. The iconic Jacob’s Ladder staircase will give your legs a workout, but the view from the top is worth every step. If you’re traveling with kids, the park’s playground and picnic areas make for a great family-friendly stop. Here is a full guide to Victoria Park.

5. Peggy’s Cove – A Classic Must-See
Last but certainly not least, Peggy’s Cove is an absolute must for any Nova Scotia road tripper. The famous lighthouse perched on rugged granite rocks is one of the most photographed spots in Canada. Whether you visit at sunrise for a peaceful experience or during sunset for a golden-hour glow, Peggy’s Cove never disappoints. Be sure to explore the tiny fishing village, grab a bowl of chowder, and soak in the coastal beauty.
